CONVERT WINDOWS MOVIE VIDEO (WMV) TO MPEG, AVI, QUICKTIME, AND 3GP

for some reason quicktime does not like these mpeg1 files directly

STEP 1. MAKE A MOVIE IN WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER AND EXPORT IT 176 x 144

STEP 2. WITH TMPGEnc (http://www.tmpgenc.net) CONVERT THE WMV FILE TO MPEG-1.

CONVERSION SETTINGS: VIDEO FORMAT: MPEG-1
VIDEO: BIT RATE: 3000 (or as high as you want)
AUDIO: BIT RATE 300+ (depends how detailed you need audio)

DO NOT USE THE WIZZARD or you willnot be able to set the bit rate.
***be sure to extract the files from the zip file onto yur hard drive and save them there.
(suggestion place: program files)

step 3. then with virtualdub (http://www.virtualdub.org/) to convert to some nice avi.

just open virtual dub and keep the default settings for the first one! this will make an exact copy.

later, you can play around with the frame rate if you want to speed up your video. remember though that it will throw your sound off! sound and video are independent.

TO MAKE .MOV FILE
step 4. OK! avi to quicktime pro (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/buy/) to export as .mov file or 3gp file!

TO MAKE 3GP FILE

STEP 4. VERSION 2. AVI or MPEG TO 3GP

a. open the nokia media converter and load the mpeg or avi file and choose the qcif or sqcif (the size of the movie)
b. the highest kbps rate is 128 and will give you files which are 1-2 mB's depending on your original file. otherwise 64 is good.
c. do not use the wb (wide band) amr
d. MAKE FILE SIZE kB is cool...the max frame rate it will give is 80 though
e. BE SURE TO UP THE VOLUME...this is a phone we are talking about
f. CONVERT
g. PLAY YOUR CONVERTED MOVIE TO CHECK THE QUALITY
h. SAVE!

FINITO!
CORRECT STEPS TO CONVERT A WINDOWS VIDEO FILE TO 3GP FORMAT

STEP 1. MAKE A MOVIE IN WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER AND EXPORT IT 176 x 144

STEP 2. WITH TMPGEnc (http://www.tmpgenc.net) CONVERT THE WMV FILE TO MPEG-1.

CONVERSION SETTINGS: VIDEO FORMAT: MPEG-1
AUDIO: BIT RATE: 3000 (or as high as you want)

STEP 3. IMPORT MPEG1 FILE INTO NOKIA MEDIA CONVERTER AND CONVERT TO 3GP FILE
download here: http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,,034-63,00.html

in THE NOKIA MEDIA CONVERTER, you can only define the Bitrate, and the highest one is 128 kbps (kilobits per second)

Resolution: 176 x 144 (QCIF) or 128 x 98 (sQCIF)
Bitrate options for video are 20, 28, 36, 44, 52, 60, 64 and 128 kbps
Bitrate options for audio are 4.75, 5.15, 5.9, 6.7, 7.4, 7.95, 10.2 and 12.2 kbps

QCIF - Webopedia.com: "QCIF
Short for Quarter Common Intermediate Format, a videoconferencing format that specifies data rates of 30 frames per second (fps), with each frame containing 144 lines and 176 pixels per line. This is one fourth the resolution of Full CIF. QCIF support is required by the ITU H.261 videoconferencing standard. "

TVPhone - ViaTV Phone - VideoConference - TVTel: "SQCIF
128 x 96 pixels
Frame Rate (SQCIF mode max.) 20 fps "

how to disable the save as function in a 3gp?

how to make it that you cannot save this file

- File can always be saved, if you view the html source and check the http location of the file. Then you can always download the file directly but....

you can disable the save menu in and embedded quicktime with this kioskmode="true" variable.

QT Embed Parameters:

save on:

add this code to the parameters (where you write loop=true etc):

param name="kioskmode" value="true"

***the above needs the <> around everything***

QT Embed Parameters: "KIOSKMODE determines if the movie can be saved to a user's hard drive.
If the KIOSKMODE parameter is not included in the embed tag, the movie by default can be saved.
KIOSKMODE works for Progressive Download movies. Streaming movies by nature cannot be saved.
The Options Button on the right side of the Controller disappears when KIOSKMODE='True'
The User can no long drag&drop the movie to the desktop.
The Right-Mouse-Click (Windows) or Click-and-Hold (Macintosh) method of engaging the contextual menu has the save functions removed. "

EMBED A 3GP INTO HTML

loop=true autoplay=true controller=true bgcolor=FFFFFF pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/">

3gp test

seems that the conroller is not working...ie not showing...now why would that be if the movie was made 160 x 120 and it is the same code as the .mov file?

object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" width="170" height="177" because...

AND

embed src="http://www.anina.net/journal/anina/december2003/dec2003_anina_162.3gp" width=160 height=120

that way i can get the controller and still have the video no deformed.

and the quality is REALLY TERRIBLE. WHAT TO DO ABOUT THAT?

What is Atom?

Answer:
Atom is one name for two things: It's both a new standard for developers, as well as a syndication format or "feed" for your blog. When a regularly updated site such as a blog has a feed, people can subscribe to it using software for reading syndicated content called a "newsreader." People like using readers for blogs because it allows them to catch up on all their favorites at once. Like checking email—without the SPAM.

at•om (at'em)
n.

An Application Program Interface.
Your blog's new syndication feed.
More than two years ago we published an experimental Application Programming Interface for Blogger. Developers and vendors were able to work with the BloggerAPI despite various drawbacks, but it was in need of an overhaul. Some engineers active in the tech/blogging community began working on a better, more comprehensive concept code-named Atom. This new system looked as though it could solve a lot of problems with our API, as well as establish a universal syndication format. Atom has finally arrived, and that means different things to different people.

What Atom Means to Blogger Users

Atom provides the potential to share your blog with a wider audience. When you activate Atom syndication, Blogger automatically generates a machine-readable version of your blog that can be picked up and displayed in a variety of ways, including newsreaders, web sites and handheld devices. There are already a bunch of newsreaders that support Atom, including NewsMonster, NewzCrawler, NewsGator and BottomFeeder. You can find a growing list of newsreaders at AtomEnabled.org.
See: How Do I Change My Site Feed Settings?
Atom touches more aspects of blogging than just blog-reading. That means it will be easier for developers to come up with applications that help you create, edit, publish, and archive your blog in a variety of new ways or just come up with stuff they think is cool, useful or fun. After all, that's how Blogger was created in the first place!

What Atom Means to Developers

AtomEnabled.org proclaims: "AtomEnabled finally makes it possible for developers to have a consistent, tightly specified, well-documented XML format for both syndication and authoring of content. Using one data format for both reading and writing, with a growing library of components supporting Atom development in almost any major scripting or programming language, means your application, site, or device can benefit from the network effect of a large community while spending less time developing core data exchange functionality."

So if you're a Developer, that meant something to you and you are looking forward to using this data format to develop cool stuff for the rest of us. We're looking forward to that too. Please check out the Developers area of AtomEnabled.org for specs and information. Also, watch the Blogger Developer blog for information specific to Blogger.

What Atom Means to Everyone

Ultimately, Atom is not just for bloggers and developers, but for everyone. As a universal format for personal content publishing built on a platform that is very extensible, Atom will allow the easy flow of information to and from the Web and beyond. Yes, Atom comes from a bloggy crowd, but that's just because the blogosphere is such fertile soil for innovation. Thanks to everyone who put in a lot of hard work to bring Atom to life. We look forward to great things.

What does Blogger.com do?

Blogger gives you a way to automate (and greatly accelerate) the blog publishing process without writing any code or worrying about installing any sort of server software or scripts. And yet, it still gives you total control over the look and location of your blog.

More specifically, instead of hand-coding your blog posts and frequently uploading the newest version of your page, you make posts to your blog by submitting a simple form on the Blogger web site, and the results immediately show up on your site, with your design.

What is a web log (sometimes called a "blog")?

"A blog is a web page made up of usually short, frequently updated posts that are arranged chronologically-like a what's new page or a journal. The content and purposes of blogs varies greatly-from links and commentary about other web sites, to news about a company/person/idea, to diaries, photos, poetry, mini-essays, project updates, even fiction.

Blog posts are like instant messages to the web.

Many blogs are personal, "what's on my mind" type musings. Others are collaborative efforts based on a specific topic or area of mutual interest. Some blogs are for play. Some are for work. Some are both.

Blogs are also excellent team/department/company/family communication tools. They help small groups communicate in a way that is simpler and easier to follow than email or discussion forums.

Weblogs were once the publishing domain of teens and techies. Today, blogs are gaining popularity among journalists, educators, and other professionals who need a more efficient means of communication.

Unlike a Web site, which is characterized by a series of links and images, a weblog is a text publication that provides links and commentary around a specific topic. The main distinction between the two is frequency. Using a blog is more like sending an instant message than an e-mail message.

Some tools for publishing a weblog can also be used to manage the content of your entire site. This allows you to maintain and easily update your Web site and blog.

Weblogs, commonly referred to as blogs, are Web sites that are very easy to update and provide instant access to information. Typically, links are the primary content of a weblog. Blogs can provide both a filter and a way into the range of information available on the Web.

Read chronologically, the most recent postings are on top of the Web page while the older information gets pushed to the bottom. A blog post frequently consists of a title, link, comment, date and time of the post, and archival information.

What Does a Blog Do?

Blogs serve many purposes, addressing a wide range of audiences. Some are serious. Some are satirical. Weblog topics range from celebrity journals to news and events. Some blogs are information resources or communication tools within a business or organization.

Informational blogs direct readers to important articles, events, and stories on the web. These blogs are usually focused on a specific topic. They are created and maintained by individuals who filter Web content and compile links that are relevant to the purpose of their weblog.

where did it start?

blogger.com, is the original company who set up web blogging. they are the biggest, as far as i understand.

How does Blogger.com work?

Magic! Actually, you provide Blogger a template of your page (or use one of several pre-designed ones) that indicates where you want your posts to appear. When you want to publish something, you simply enter it in a form. When you're ready, you hit a "Publish" button that will automatically send your new page to your web server. No muss. No fuss. Total control.

Is Blogger Free?

Yes! You can create, publish and host your blog all for free.

Why Should My Organization Use a Weblog?

Weblogs can be an effective tool for communication between
departments, programs, and organizations.

They can:

Allow employees or constituents to post news/commentary that would be of interest

Serve as a forum for exchanging resources and information

Provide a comfortable atmosphere in which members can ask questions, give feedback, or share ideas

Keep track of meeting dates and events

Be a medium of communication for matters of general interest

Because they can be easily and frequently updated, weblogs allow for an almost instantaneous way to share and access important information.

What Software Do I Need to Start a Blog?

Blogging software comes in three basic varieties:

Hosted Services

Remotely Installed Applications

Locally Installed Applications
Hosted services, such as Blogger or Pitas.com, are applications that run on a remote server. The company that offers the service takes care of all the back-end details, maintains the server, and runs the actual software. Users access the application through the front end of a Web site. With a hosted service, you can set up a weblog with little knowledge beyond basic HTML skills, and you can access your blog using any computer that is connected to the Internet.

Remotely-Installed Applications, like Moveable Type or pMachine, are applications that are installed on your server and then accessed via individual workstations. Typically, these applications require more knowledge (someone at your organization needs to configure your server and maintain the application), but they allow a greater degree of flexibility. In some cases, they can be used as content management systems for your entire site, and not just a tool to publish your weblog.

Locally-Installed Applications, like Radio Userland, reside on your computer. These are often easier to set up than a remotely-installed system, but they don't offer the same flexibility. Typically, only one user can post to the weblog.

So how do you decide which type of software is best for you? Combine your degree of tech saavy with the requirements of your site. If you want to easily set up a weblog to which multiple novice users can post, you'll probably want to use one of the hosted services. This way, you keep novice users from accessing the rest of your Web site, and your users can post from any Internet-connected computer.

If you would like to use the application as a content management system for your entire site, consider a remotely-installed application or locally-installed application. As with any technology decision, it is best to make a complete list of your requirements and then compare that with the features offered by each application.
